(21 October 2015) Luvata, a world leader in metal solution manufacturing, heat-transfer technology and engineering and design services, announces its manufacturing facility in Pasir Gudang, Malaysia has received its Lean certification. Luvata, with 37 manufacturing facilities and over 6300 employees in 18 countries, now has three facilities that are Lean certified.
Lean is a world-renowned production philosophy made famous by Toyota, which focuses on minimizing waste in the pursuit of quality and value. Luvata committed to the pursuit of Lean certification in 2006, establishing strict benchmarks and measuring systems across its businesses. Its assessment, based on principles which are recognized across many industries, requires a score of 3 for certification. In the October 2015 audit, Luvata Malaysia scored 3.3.
In acknowledging the facility’s achievement, Michael Nordgren, Managing Director of Luvata Malaysia, commented, “Pasir Gudang has diligently worked on continuous improvement initiatives that deliver value add and improved efficiency. The team has adopted the Lean principles as a holistic approach to continuous improvement.”
The 17,600 square-meter industrial facility in Malaysia manufactures busbars for the electrical industry, anodes for general plating and PCB industries as well as a photovoltaic wire for the solar industry. The key benefits of the Lean program in Pasir Gudang include the standardization of processes to reduce changeover times resulting in shorter lead times and improved yield.
Still early in its Lean journey, Luvata’s consistent application of the principles and their indoctrination into its culture will over time lead to similar results at all locations.
