(10 June 2014) Luvata has signed a building lease agreement for its first Serbia manufacturing facility. The newly acquired facility in Sremska Mitrovica is located in the Voivodine province of Serbia and will be used to manufacture Luvata’s smaller, higher-volume heat exchangers used in the commercial refrigeration and residential air-conditioning industries.
Scheduled to begin operations in September 2014 and employing 50 people, the selected facility is ideally located in Central Europe. The location is within an hour’s drive north to reach Romania or Hungary to the east and less than one hour to Croatia in the west. Lower energy costs and various trade agreements with surrounding countries will enable Luvata to be more cost competitive in serving its customers in Turkey, Russia and Eastern Europe.
The entire 8400-square-meter facility has been refurbished with new floors, windows, doors and roof. Originally built in 1982, the building is constructed of both concrete walls and steel construction. The facility’s height and layout are perfectly suited for Luvata’s Lean manufacturing standards.
“Based on the support we’ve received from Serbia’s Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic, the City’s Mayor Branislav Nedimović and local city administrators, we’re confident Sremska Mitrovica is the right place for us in better serving the needs of our customers,” says Mario Merlino, Director of Luvata Serbia.
Luvata’s position as the world’s biggest producer of coils and coolers for applications including commercial, industrial and mobile cooling and refrigeration continues to grow with its latest facility in Serbia.
