Structural copper panels with superior strength and versatility
(4 February 2011). Luvata today announces the introduction of Nordic Composite, innovative structural copper panels used for cladding that deliver extraordinary strength but are very easy to work with. Available in a variety of colours and patinations, Nordic Composite offers architects endless ways to bring durability and sustainability to their designs.
Nordic Composite is made up of two copper sheets that are bonded together by thermoplastic resin, which means that the panels are extremely strong. This strength provides consistent flatness and enables greater unsupported spans and reduced substructure, delivering flexibility and impressive architectural qualities to any construction project.
Ideal for forming into façade panels, particularly for rain-screen systems, Nordic Composite is particularly easy to work, allowing low-cost fabrication of various systems and designs. The tight adhesion between the two panels provides a variety of possibilities for machining. They can be drilled using conventional metal bits, cut with guillotines, vertical circular saws or in CNC machine centres and folded simply by roll-forming.
“As copper is 100% recyclable and one of the most durable construction materials available, Nordic Composite enhances the core strength and versatility of the copper panel, while still being easy to work with and machine,” states Mr. Janne Juhola, Application Engineer with Luvata Pori. “In addition, our Nordic line of copper architectural products, including Nordic Composite, is exceptional in that 97% of copper produced for roofing and cladding applications comes from recycled material.”
Nordic Composite is available in traditional copper composite as well as patinated finishes including Nordic Green, Nordic Blue traditional and Living1, with additional colour options available later this year. The ability to choose patination or mix panels of different patinations provides architects with limitless ways to bring their creative ideas to life, and add to the benefits of durability and sustainability.
